Jeff Bezos and his Gen Z song and anthem

Here words and song to “Bezos I,” often referred to as the “Jeff Bezos song.”

CEO, entrepreneur, born in 1964

Jeff Bezos is a household name these days. Among his awards are a businessman, an inventor, and even a commercial cosmonaut. Not to mention that he was the richest person in the world from 2017 to 2021. He is currently the second richest person behind Elon Musk, who has a whopping $219 billion compared to Bezos’ $177 billion.

However, Bezos is best known as the founder and former CEO of Amazon. Back in 2013, Bezos bought Washington Post. In 2018 Forbes The Wealth Index named Bezos the richest person in modern history. It wasn’t until July 2021 that he stepped down as CEO to become the company’s executive chairman. Later that month, he went into space with his brother Mark.

Bezos and his public speech

Some describe Bezos as a data-driven, brilliant, mysterious, cold-blooded corporate titan of the industry. In the early 2000s, some described him as defiant and nerdy. It wasn’t until the 2010s that he changed his public image to one more like an aggressive businessman. By wearing tailored clothes, exercising and eating better, Bezos has made Amazon transform with him. Back in the 1990s, he was seen as someone who would never stop pushing Amazon to new heights, even at the expense of welfare and philanthropy.

Later in the late 2010s, his lack of donations of his fortune has been a problem since at least 2016 and has caused more negative media perceptions of him. He also occasionally speaks out against critical statements made in articles about him. However, in 2020, Bezos has pledged $10 billion to fight climate change, $100 million to food banks, and $2 billion to food system restructuring and conservation.

Bezos and pop culture

He is currently considered the dominant figure in the business world. Even in pop culture, many describe him as a supervillain. In fact, he has often been compared to the DC comic book supervillain and Superman’s nemesis, Lex Luthor. This went on until comedian Bo Burnham created a hit special called Inside that it really took off however.

This comedy special was about being stuck inside during the coronavirus pandemic. The comedy special is a series of songs and sketches that Burnham created while quarantined at his home. One of the hits is called “Bezos I”, where the song praises Bezos’ mission to become a tech oligarch, albeit insincerely. In fact, there is a second song by Jeff Bezos that is simply titled “Bezos II” and is similar to the first, where Bezos is mocked.

Generation Z Anthem

By early 2022, a Jeff Bezos song went viral on the social media app TikTok. The audience, mostly Generation Z, used the song as an anti-capitalist and anti-Bezos anthem. They spoke out against unfair working conditions in general, as well as Amazon workers having to deal with appalling working conditions. Many of these videos of the song have gone viral, such as the one in which an Amazon truck had to drive through a flood. The video has received over 10 million views in less than a month. Another TikTok had an Amazon Go store and had over 7 million views in one day.

The song by Jeff Bezos appeals to fans of generation Z, because the song itself sounds optimistic. However, there is also a melancholy sound to it. The song, taken from a comedy special during a global pandemic, resonated with much of that crowd. It also reflected their attitude towards the current state of the world. Especially since many have been unable to leave their homes due to Covid-19. This has led to high rates of poor mental health.
